YB M Kula Segaran: 2018 Deepavali Message

05 November 2018

Happy Deepavali to all those celebrating the Festival of Lights.

During this joyous times, let us ponder about the new hope and new challenges that arose when Malaysians banded together to vote for #MalaysiaBaharu.

The expectations from Malaysians have never been higher and we will strive to do our best.

Nothing comes easy without hard work. Which is why Malaysians must look back at how they can be more productive and contribute more towards the economy.

At MoHR, the challenge is on. Facing the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), we are looking at how Automation will eventually replace some traditional jobs and create new jobs or Jobs of the Future.

In order to take full advantage of these Future Jobs, Malaysians have to be Upskilled and Reskilled. We vow to ensure that Training Providers do just that, in an efficient and transparent manner.

We also plan to amend some laws to make them relevant for the future and so that the welfare of workers are protected as things around us change. Among the laws involved are; Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Sabah Labour Ordinance, Sarawak Labour Ordinance, Trade Unions Act, Minimum Standard of Housing and Amenities Act, Private Recruitment Agencies Act and Employees' Social Security Act.

Adding jobs in the market is important but for employees to be adequately compensated is equally important. Our human capital development, transformation and adoption of the digital economy will see them reaping the benefits of being adequately prepared for it and to thrive in it, competitively.

Only then, will our economy rebound with greater heights and be that successful Asian tiger again.

So this Deepavali let us celebrate the great values we share as Malaysians and strive to grow as a nation.
