Details announced for subsequent SFCF locations

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 FEBRUARY 2014 – Following the success of its Sector Focused Career Fair (SFCF) series in 2013, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) today hosted the SFCF Big Bang as the first chapter of its SFCF series for the year. Held at TM Convention Centre, the event was officiated by Datuk Dr. Rahamat Bivi Yusof, Director General of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and is in line with efforts to increase career awareness of the opportunities available in priority sectors under the 11 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs).

As one of TalentCorp’s initiatives to increase career awareness and instil a better understanding of Malaysia’s key economic sectors, the SFCF series provides an opportunity for graduates to meet with corporate leaders and senior human resource representatives of participating companies while providing a platform for companies to scout for potential talents from universities in Malaysia. The series also aims to support Malaysia in producing industry-ready graduates by increasing their marketability and empowering them to make the right career choices. SFCF Big Bang focused on Engineering, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, Shared Services and FMCG sectors.

Sharing her thoughts during the SFCF Big Bang, Dr. Rahamat said, “It is good to see the support the SFCFs have garnered, not just from the public but also from our partner employers, who are here today to showcase the breadth of career opportunities now available in Malaysia to our young local talents. It is hoped that through initiatives such as these that we are able to optimise Malaysian talent on the way to becoming a high-income nation by 2020.”

“Addressing the growing need for world-class human capital across Malaysia’s economic landscape requires a strong domestic talent pipeline. This is best achieved through closer engagement between our students and leading Malaysian employers, through platforms such as today’s career fair,” said Johan Mahmood Merican, CEO of TalentCorp.

TalentCorp also announced details of its collaboration with local universities for nine subsequent SFCFs throughout 2014, namely Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Nilai University College, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Kota Kinabalu), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Labuan), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Teknikal Melaka, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

According to Mohamad Zaini bin Hasbullah, Senior Manager, Group Human Resource, MK Land Holdings Berhad, “Malaysia certainly has a strong pipeline of young talent and the SFCF series provides exposure to attract our Malaysian graduates to explore exciting careers underlined in the 11 NKEA sectors. Several critical industries are in need of top talent, and the undergraduates are able to use this opportunity to better understand these developing sectors in Malaysia. The companies also have the opportunity to educate the public about industry developments, sectoral branding and increase understanding of the sectors. MK Land would like to explore new areas in talent sourcing from various local channels in line with our hiring strategies and policies.”
