LABUAN, 11 JUNE – The Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) through its agency Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) successfully organised the Young Employable Students (YES!) We Are Ready 2023 programme in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), held at the UMS Labuan International Campus (UMSLIC) today.

More than 400 students attended the 3-day programme filled with activities to enhance their graduate employability, including awareness of their future career prospects, vital communication skills for personal branding, and creative problem-solving methods through innovative thinking.

During the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Human Resources YB Tuan Ts. Mustapha Sakmud praised TalentCorp for their efforts to strengthen Malaysia's talent ecosystem through initiatives aimed at building industry-ready graduates.

“In today's knowledge economy, talent is the key to success. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, TalentCorp is working to ensure that Malaysia has the talent it needs to compete in the global economy,” he said.

The TalentCorp's YES! initiative is a school-to-work proactive intervention to enhance Malaysian students' graduate employability, so that they are future-ready and future-proof with skills in-demand by employers. In 2023, the initiative was expanded to include Technical and Vocational Training Education (TVET) institutions as a strategic measure to address the issue of job mismatch in the workforce.

TalentCorp’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Mathew said that Malaysia has the young talent source to meet investors’ needs, and that TalentCorp collaborates with industry partners, educational institutions, and Government agencies in efforts and initiatives to create a well-aligned workforce.

“Employers who play a crucial role in determining skills needs and providing industry training, can apply for TalentCorp’s National Structured Internship Programme (MySIP). This way, they can start building their talent pipeline, and eligible employers can benefit from the MySIP double tax deduction incentive.”
