04 November 2014

LABUAN F.T, 4 November 2014 – Continuing the success of its Sector Focused Career Fair (SFCF) series, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) brought the SFCF to East Malaysia. The second last event for the SFCF 2014 series is held at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) from 4th and 5th of November 2014.

The SFCF aims to educate the public, particularly students, on the career paths available under Malaysia’s priority economic sectors and provide opportunities for participants to meet with over 40 prospective employers.

"The SFCF enables participants to explore numerous career opportunities, make personal contacts that could lead to career opportunities, gather information from potential employers, find out what an employer values in its employees and demonstrate effective communication skills. At the same time it creates greater awareness and interest amongst young talents on the diverse and dynamic high-income career opportunities in Malaysia," said Johan Mahmood Merican, CEO, TalentCorp.

The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), being a partner of the SFCF series, has over the years strategised and formulated various initiatives, among them the MSC Malaysia’s “SSO Career of Choice” and “ICT as a Career of Choice campaigns which targets students pursuing tertiary education, fresh graduates and young professionals in the bid to address the nation’s demand for a knowledgeable and skilled workforce.

"MDeC acts as a bridge between the Malaysian government and the industry to facilitate growth of rapidly growing industries such as Shared Services and Outsourcing sector. Hence, we will continue to invest in building closer synergy and collaboration with TalentCorp and industry players who are essential partners to help us build growth and vibrancy for Malaysia’s Shared Services & Outsourcing ecosystem," said Michael Warren, Vice President, Shared Services and Outsourcing Division, MDeC.

SFCF UMSKAL will be focusing on four sectors, namely Business, Finance, Creative Content and Shared Services & Outsourcing.

Through this event, students will also be able to find out more about internship opportunities with Structured Internship Program (SIP)-endorsed companies. The SIP is collaborative programme between the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and TalentCorp which is designed to encourage students to gain real world experience through internships.

Admission to SFCF UMSKAL is free, with activities including the Career Talk and Coffee Talk. The Career Talk is a platform for students to engage with prominent industry leaders, while the Coffee Talk enables visitors, especially students, to interact with participating employers in a relaxed atmosphere.
