MyASEANinternship 2016 Returns With More Employers And Greater Overseas Opportunities

21 April 2016

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 April 2016 - After a successful debut last year, the myASEANinternship programme returns with more employers signed up to offer regional internships to top young talent across ASEAN. This year’s programme sees the participation of 23 companies - almost double the number of employers who took part in last year’s programme.

Among the top Malaysian and multinational companies taking part this year are AirAsia, Axiata, CIMB, Digi, IKEA, Maybank, Mondelēz, PwC,  RHB Bank, Unilever and UEM Group. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has also joined as the first ministry to provide internship opportunities. Altogether, these employers offer up to 100 internship placements, up from over 40 placements available last year.

A collaboration between MITI and Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp), myASEANinternship enables high-achieving Malaysian students from local and overseas universities to intern with leading employers at various ASEAN locations. Meanwhile, ASEAN nationals studying at Malaysian universities are able to intern in Malaysia. The programme is also open to fresh graduates within six months of graduation.

To date, more than 500 students and fresh graduates from nine ASEAN countries including Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam have applied for the programme.

“Given ASEAN’s aim to transform itself into a single regional bloc that can wield significant political, diplomatic and economic power, the myASEANinternship programme allows our youth to develop a clear understanding of ASEAN and the opportunities and benefits that come from regional economic integration,” said MITI Minister YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed at the myASEAN Market Day 2016 today.

TalentCorp CEO Johan Mahmood Merican said, “The myASEANinternship programme offers our top young talent the chance to build their international careers right here in Malaysia, with leading Malaysian employers expanding regionally and multinationals that have established their regional headquarters in Malaysia.”

The myASEAN Market Day 2016 enabled this year’s applicants to market themselves to prospective employers through interviews and other activities. YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa also unveiled the three winners of the myASEAN Experience 2015 Contest who submitted the best written accounts of their internship experience last year.

Application for the myASEANinternship 2016 programme is still open. For more information or to apply, visit www.talentcorp.com.my/en/our-initiatives/for-students-graduates/myaseaninternship.
