KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 1): The property development sector is a good training ground for fresh graduates if they have the passion for it, said chairman and non-independent and non-executive director of Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld) Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin.

"The property development sector is where you can learn many things because we have so many departments. Of course, to do well in it, you need to have the passion. Then, you can go far," he told TheEdgeProperty.com after a talk organised by Talentcorp Malaysia and EcoWorld Group under the Talentcorp Semester Break Programme.

Liew was speaking to more than 100 interns of EcoWorld, and university students on term break from the UK, the US and Malaysia today.

According to Talentcorp Malaysia CEO Shareen Shariza Abdul Ghani, programmes like these are the very first step to give students an understanding of what companies in Malaysia are doing and their career opportunities here.

"It's a very personal engagement for the students and the companies at the talk. You have Liew himself who makes time to share his experience with the students. We approach different companies from different sectors such as financial, construction, engineering and consulting to match different talents to different companies," she told TheEdgeProperty.com.

Liew shared that everyone has their own path to walk and you need to follow your heart when making life decisions.

"Being in this industry for so many years, there are ups and downs and life isn't always easy. But, never ever give up. When I first started out my first project development in Bukit Indah, Ampang in the 1990s, I brought my firstborn many times to my office because I was working so hard. When you come across a stumbling block, keep moving forward. Life is always about having good luck — good in the sense that you work hard and deliver your work well to maintain your reputation. When you do good work, your luck will come," he said.
