Transition Pathways Strengthened for Veterans Through Veteran MyWIRA

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mr Thomas Mathew, TalentCorp Group Chief Executive Officer and Major General Dato' Haji Semaon bin Haji Marjuki Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) Director General, while observed by YBTM KESUMA, Dato’ Sri Abdul Rahman Mohamad and YBTM Defense, YB Tuan Adly Zahari to enhance support for veterans transitioning into the private sector.

 

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 March 2025 – Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) has joined forces with the Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) and the Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT) to enhance career transition pathways for Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans through the Veteran MyWIRA Programme.

Speaking at the event, YB Dato’ Sri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, Deputy Minister of Human Resources (KESUMA), reaffirmed TalentCorp’s mandate to support veterans in transitioning smoothly and productively into the private sector. Leveraging industry intelligence and its extensive network, TalentCorp works to broaden opportunities by aligning veterans’ skills with market needs, fostering career pathways, and connecting them with potential employers.

The transition from military to civilian employment is a critical phase. Veteran MyWIRA ensures our national heroes integrate seamlessly into the workforce. With TalentCorp and key industry players, we are taking proactive steps to strengthen veterans’ employability and improve their overall quality of life,he said.

A highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TalentCorp and JHEV to enhance support for veterans transitioning into the private sector. This collaboration will focus on structured talent pipelines, Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL), and stronger industry engagement to expand career opportunities for veterans.

YB Tuan Adly Zahari, Deputy Minister of Defence, reiterated MINDEF’s commitment to ensuring veterans gain access to industries seeking skilled talent.

Veterans bring unmatched discipline, leadership, and technical expertise. However, many struggle to translate their military experience into civilian careers. Through strong partnerships between MINDEF and KESUMA, we urge more employers to recognise the value veterans bring and tap into this highly capable workforce,” he said.

Key employers, including Micron Memory Malaysia, Western Digital, and Jabil, are actively supporting Veteran MyWIRA, hiring and training veterans in high-value sectors. Through the sector-based, industry-led MyMAHIR Future Skills Talent Council (FSTC), TalentCorp is equipping veterans with industry-relevant skills aligned with Malaysia’s economic and technological advancements.

Since its launch in January 2024, Veteran MyWIRA has helped ATM veterans transition into the private sector through industry partnerships and upskilling initiatives. To date, the programme has facilitated employment for 49 veterans with salaries of at least RM2,900, and opened 500 job opportunities across the Electronics & Electrical (E&E), Logistics, and Global Business Services (GBS) sectors.

At the event, YB Dato’ Sri Abdul Rahman Mohamad and TalentCorp also presented Sumbangan Ihya' MyMAHIR, a RM30,000 contribution to Veteran Associations in recognition of their vital role in supporting the transition of ATM personnel before retirement. Beyond welfare, these associations play a key role in career transition workshops, providing direct support, industry insights, and guidance to ensure ATM veterans are well-prepared for employment post-service.
