TalentCorp Facilitates Platform For Graduates To Seek Employment In The Shared Services, FMCG, Hospitality And Tourism Industries
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 October 2013 – To meet the needs of the ever-changing global corporate climate, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) has continued to facilitate awareness among the public on the choices of career paths available in the 11 National Key Economic Area (NKEA) sectors by hosting a Sector Focused Career Fair (SFCF) at Taylor’s University. The event, held from 30-31 October, was officiated by YB Encik Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports.
SFCF Taylor’s was a joint effort between TalentCorp, Graduan and Taylor’s University. The focus areas for the fair were Shared Services, Business Services, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, and Hospitality & Tourism.
YB Encik Khairy shared his thoughts during a dialogue session at SFCF that “information technology and communication has played a major role in shaping the younger generation with a different psychographic profile and behavioural traits. The digital revolution has changed the way industries operate, interact with consumers and achieve business growth. The younger generation, who will be Malaysia’s future, need to be part of economic growth areas to remain competitive, and I applaud such initiatives that provide a holistic view of the tools needed to drive Malaysia forward as an economic powerhouse in the region.”
According to Johan Mahmood Merican, CEO of TalentCorp, the SFCF series are part of TalentCorp’s main thrust to optimise Malaysian talent. “We see ourselves as a bridge between Malaysian talent and leading employers, especially in connecting our young Malaysian talent to exciting opportunities in growth areas of Malaysia’s economic transformation. Platforms such as the SFCF enable Malaysian talent to directly interact with established employers to better understand available career paths and what employers are looking for, plus ultimately, to secure a job. We are very encouraged by the strong support from top employers towards TalentCorp’s initiatives to engage Malaysian graduates and we hope our graduates in turn will make the most of platforms such as the SFCF to secure their future careers.”
The SFCF at Taylor’s University was supported by over 40 major companies. Amongst the 40 companies are HP, Shell, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC Malaysia, Frost & Sullivan, IBM, Dell, AIG Shared Services, QSR Brands, L’Oreal and Amway.
“As one of the leading private Universities in Malaysia, Taylor’s University is proud to host such a major event as the SFCF organised by TalentCorp. Here we believe in being dedicated to a culture of excellence in everything that we do, and it starts with the right kind of education and exposure. Our core purpose is to educate the youth of the world to take their productive place as leaders in the global community. The SFCF, which involves leading corporations in Malaysia, is the first step for our students and I am pleased with the support shown by the organisers in providing Malaysians a solid platform to contribute back to the country,” said Professor Dato’ Dr Hassan Said, Vice Chancellor, Taylor’s University.
The SFCF provides an opportunity for graduates to meet with CEOs and senior HR representatives of participating companies while providing a platform for companies to scout for potential talent from universities in Malaysia. Several critical industries are in need of top talent, and the undergraduates are able to use this opportunity to better understand these developing sectors in Malaysia. The companies also have the opportunity to educate the public about industry developments, sectoral branding and increase understanding of niche areas of Shared Services, Business Services, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, and Hospitality & Tourism.
The two-day event included Career Talks and Couch Corner Slot. Career Talks is a platform developed for the young generation to engage with prominent industry leaders while the Couch Corner Slot was designed for the visitors, especially students, to interact with the companies in a relaxed atmosphere.
